Bhagavad Gita or Gitopanisad is one of the most important Upanishad. Bhagavad Gita is the philosophy of life narrated and explained by Lord Krsna to his devotee and friend Arjuna.

Gita (Nos.10-12)(Ch.2)

tam uvaca hrsikesah prahasann iva bharata senayor ubhayor madhye visidantam idam vacah


O, Son of Bharata, Krsna was smiling when he said these words to sad Arjuna.


It is a continuation of the conversation between intimate friends, namely the Hrsikesa and the Gudakesa. When they are friends, both of them were on the same level, but one of them voluntarily became a student of the other. Krsna was amused because a friend had chosen to become a disciple.

As Lord of all, He is always in the higher position as the master of everyone, and yet the Lord accepts one who wishes to be a friend, or any other role like a son, a lover, or a devotee.

But when He  accepted as the master, He immediately assumed the role and behave like a master to the disciple as it required. It seems that the talk between the master and the disciple openly exchanged in the presence of both armies so that all benefitted.



Gita (Nos.10-12)(Ch.2)

sri-bhagavan uvaca
asocyan anvasocas tvam
prajna-vadams ca bhasase
gatasun agatasums ca
nanusocanti panditah


Lord Krsna said: You are mourning for nothing. A wise person never feels sorry for the living beings or a dead person.


The Lord at once took the position of the teacher and lecture the student, calling him, indirectly, a fool. The Lord Krsna told to Arjuna, you  talking like an enlightened man, but you do not know that one who enlightened—one who knows what the body and what soul—does not sorrow for any stage of the body, neither in the living nor in the dead condition. It will be clear that knowledge means knowledge and control of matter and spirit.

He did not know that knowledge of the matter, soul, and the Supreme is even more important than religious principles. He was lacking in that knowledge, he should not have thought of himself as a very learned man. The body born and destined to go today or tomorrow; therefore the body not as important as the soul. This knowledge makes a person be learned, and for him, there no cause for grief, regardless of the condition of the material body.

Gita (Nos.10-12)(Ch.2)

na tv evaham jatu nasam
na tvam neme janadhipah
na caiva na bhavisyamah
sarve vayam atah param


My existence was before, as also you, all these kings also. Alternatively, we will be there in the future too.


It is not that they did not exist as individuals in the past, and it is not that they will not remain eternal persons. As it says in Mayavadi theory that after freeing the individual soul, separated by the covering of Maya or illusion. The Mayavadi may have a contrary argument that the individuality told of by Krsna is not spiritual, but material.

Krsna established His distinction in the past and confirms His distinction in the future also.  Krsna has maintained spiritual distinction all along; When one thinks Krsna is an ordinary man, the Gita loses all importance.

It is clearly mentioned in many places in the Gita that this pious person understood by those who devotees of the Lord. Those who do not accept Krsna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead have no right to access great verse. Gita is for the persons who believe in the very existence of the Lord. Vedas confirmed the plurality of the individual soul and of the Lord as an eternal fact.
