Location
Tripura Sundari Temple is situated on a small hill in Udaipur, 55 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Dedicated to Maa Tripura Sundari (Maa Kali), this temple is also known as ‘Matabari’. This temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mother Shakti.

This temple of Buxar holds amazing mysteries in itself. It is said that the idols installed in this temple talk among themselves. However, no scientific proof of this has been found so far. But it is also true that archaeologists have tried to unveil this mystery for a long time. But when even after doing research for a long time, he could not find anything, then the work of searching for it was stopped. Legend
It believed that the right leg of Sati fell here after being cut off. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva, saddened by the death of Sati, carried her dead body on his shoulders and danced the tandava so fiercely that all the gods frightened. To stop Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu cut Sati’s body into pieces which fell in India, Pakistan, Burma, and Nepal.
According to the legend, the fingerprints of the right feet of Mother Sati are still present at this place. This temple is one of the major tourist destinations in the state. Thousands of devotees visit the temple every day to have the darshan of the mother. The “Soroshi” form of Maa Kali worshiped in this temple. The form of the temple resembles the shape of a tortoise or kurma and hence it called “Kurma Peeth”.
About Tripura Sundari Temple
The name of this mysterious temple of Buxar is ‘Tripur Sundari’. It said that it built about 400 years ago. Information about the establishment received from local astrologers and pundits that it built by a Tantrik named Bhavani Mishra. It also said that the people who maintaining the temple even today are from the same Tantrik family.
The idol of ‘Maa Tripura Sundari’ installed in the temple. Along with Shodasi, Dhumavati, Chinna Masta, Kali, Tara, and Ugra Tara along with other deities, different forms of Bhairav Baba have been installed. It said that during midnight, these idols of the deities sitting in the temple interact with each other.
It said that as soon as any person enters the ‘Maa Tripura Sundari’ temple. He starts feeling a different positive power. Apart from this, it has also been heard that at the midnight, suddenly sounds start coming from the temple. These sounds are so loud that they can be heard clearly by the people around. Although many times people also tried to come to the temple to see and hear from where these voices come. But in spite of all the efforts, no one could find anything.
Tripura Sundari Temple History
This temple built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Debbarma in the year 1501. This temple also called ‘Kurma Peeth’ due to the shape of the temple complex being similar to that of a Kurma (tortoise). In the square hut-like sanctum sanctorum of the Tripura Sundari Temple with a conical spire, there are two identical-looking idols of Goddess Kali in the form of ‘Shodashi’ – one 5 feet high and the other 3 feet high. Out of these, the bigger idol worshiped as ‘Tripur Sundari’ and the smaller one as ‘Chhoti Maa’. It said that Maharaj used to take the idol of ‘Chhoti Maa’ along with him to the battlefield.
More about the Deity
The construction style of the temple resembles Bengali architecture due to the hut-shaped structure and conical roof. Kalyan Sagar Lake situated on the eastern side of Tripura Sundari Temple. The statue sculpted in black kasti stone.
During Diwali, a grand Diwali fair organized at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple. Every year lakhs of people participate in this fair. According to Rajamala, the idol of Lord Vishnu installed in the temple after the temple built. But one night Maha Maya appeared in the dream of Maharaja Blessed Manikya and asked him to keep his idol at this place from Chittagong. After this Mata Tripura Sundari established in this temple.
