Jwalamukhi Temple, a Shaktipeeth is established in district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh in the Sonbhadra Shaktinagar area.

The Temple:

This is the place of Dhoom Devi. It comes in 51 Shaktipeeths. In this pilgrimage place, the Goddess seen in the form of nine lights. These number of lights sometimes varies. The main flame which is adorned in a silver niche in front of the temple gate is called Mahakali. Under the Mahakali Jyoti is the holy light of Mother Annapurna, who fills the store with food, and always fills it with food. The third light is of ‘Chandimata’. The fourth holy light is of ‘Hinglaj Bhavani’. The fifth flame is of ‘Mahalaxmi’. The sixth light is of Vindhyavasini and the seventh light is of Mahasaraswati. The eighth light is of mother Ambika and the ninth flame is of mother Anjana. The flame is lit at 9 different places from the rock of the mountain. That is why the goddess called by the name of Jwala ji.

Jwalamukhi Temple located in Singrauli/Sonbhadra Shaktinagar area has a very old mythological history, here along with UP, lakhs of devotees from adjoining areas of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand come to worship throughout the year with Shardiya and Chaitra Navratri, Mythology According to this, the front part of the tongue of Mother Sati cut off at this place, the eternal flame burning in the Jwalamukhi Temple for many years also become the center of reverence.

Legend:

Legend has it that in Satyuga, when Emperor Bhumichandra realized that the tongue of Bhagwati Sati had been cut by the chakra of Lord Vishnu and fell on the Dhaulidhar mountains of the Himalayas, he built a small temple at Nagarkot-Kangra for Bhagwati Sati.

After some years in this, a cowherd informed Emperor Bhumichandra that he had seen a flame coming out on such a mountain, which burns continuously like a flame. Maharaj Bhumichandra ji himself came and saw the place and built a temple in the dense forest.

Another story is like Jwala Devi Maa had given a dream to the family members of Udit Narayan Singh of Singrauli state, the Tapobhoomi of Shringi Rishi. In the dream, the Goddess said that ‘O Rajan, my talent is lying in the forest of Neem and Bell in the village of Ranibari near Gaharwar, the capital of your state, which you worship. Do, there will be happiness, peace, and prosperity in your kingdom and your kingdom will spread all over the world.’

Swaroop Raja came after searching and got Pratibha. The king wanted to go to his capital with Pratibha. After a lot of effort, the king successful in taking Pratibha, then on the suggestion of Rajputs, the Goddess, who seated in Jwalamukhi Maa Shaktinagar, established.

The five Pandavas also visited Jwala ji and the temple renovated. There a holy place, Gorakh Dibbi on Shri Jwala Ji Teerth, where water in a small pool boils continuously and appears to be hot but in reality, the water is cold. It said that Gorakhnath ji did penance here. Later people like Emperor Akbar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, etc also came here. Akbar’s gilded chhatri (umbrella) of a quarter of a mond in weight still lying in the temple and can be seen which made of some strange metal that neither iron, nor lead, nor copper nor brass. Presently this pilgrimage a very beautiful holy place.

The summits decorated with gold leaves. There is a Hawankund on the temple premises. Langar Bhawan, the committee’s office, sitting room for distinguished persons, and many other buildings built. Devotees enter the temple premises after climbing about 100 steps. Glittering railings of brass poles and pipes installed to line up the visitors. Complete cleanliness in the temple, no trace of dirt anywhere.

Five aartis performed every day by the temple committee. In the morning Brahmamuhurta, after 2 hours the Mangal Aarti, the third Aarti in the mid-afternoon, the fourth Aarti in the evening, and the fifth Shayan Aarti at 10 o’clock in the night. In which milk cream offered.

Different types of bhog offered to these five aartis. There is a law to worship Shri Jwaladevi in three ways. First Panchopachar, Second Dashopchar, Third Shodashopachara. Devotees worship according to their convenience.

Other places of interest in Jwalamukhi pilgrimage include Sewa Bhawan, Virkund, Gorakh Dibbi, Radhakrishna Temple, Shivshakti Lal Pagoda, Kali Bhairav Temple, Singh, Nagarjuna, Ambikeshwar Mahadev, Tedha Temple, Ashtadashbhuja Devi are prominent.

In the Jwalamukhi Temple, the arrival of various kings, maharajas, saints, and royal men has been continuous. Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century, Mughal emperor Akbar, Aurangzeb, Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s general Hari Singh Baluwa, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Kunwar Naunihal Singh, Tantrik Sant Gorakhnath, President Shankar Dayal Sharma, Sant Ravi Shankar, various High Court judges, former Chief Minister Prem Kumar.

The Chief Minister, Ministers, and several dozen MPs and MLAs have visited here. The land property of the temple is 14 acres. The temple built on 2 acres. The temple run by a nine-member trust set up by the government. A degree college, a Sanskrit college, and a library are being run by the trust. The annual budget of the trust committee is five and a half crores. There are 450 pande-priests, 51 employees, and 18 home guards from 141 families in the temple.

10-12 thousand devotees visit on normal days, Chaitra, Ashwin, and Shravan Ashtami, 10 lakh in Navratri, and 30-32 lakh devotees every year.

How To Reach the Jwalamukhi Temple:

This place is 90 km from Una and 35 km from Kangra. is far.

Jwaladevi can be reached from Hoshiarpur via Gauripura Dera and also from Pathankot.

By Air:

The nearest airport to Jwalaji Temple is at Gagal, which is 46 km from Jwalaji.

By Rail:

Passengers going by rail can reach Palampur via Maranda with the help of a special train running from Pathankot. Bus and car facility is available from Palampur to the Jwalamukhi Temple.

By Road:

Bus and car facility is available from major cities like Pathankot, Delhi, Shimla, etc. to Jwalamukhi Mandir. Apart from this, passengers can also reach there by their private vehicles and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department bus.
