Braj tour is not considered complete if you do not visit Dauji Mandir, Mathura after seeing Lord Krishna. While Shri Krishna resides in every particle of Braj, the special grace of Dauji also showers on the devotees. The historical ancient mandir of Dauji is built in Baldev. This is the oldest mandir of ‘Vallabh Sampradaya’ in Mathura.
The Mandir
Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, the deities of Dauji, Madan Mohan, and Ashtabhuj Gopal are seated in this mandir. The main ‘Baldev Mandir’ of Dauji or Balram is in Baldev of Mathura itself. There is a fully flourishing market in the parikrama path around the mandir like the coil of a snake. There is also a huge pool behind the mandir, which is known as ‘Balabhadra Kund’. It is called the name of ‘Kshirsagar’.
Jagran Gokul and Mahavan are in the middle of the path of the mandir established at Baladeva, about 21 km from Mathura. In this Vidrumavan, there is a very beautiful huge statue of Balarama and the deity of Jyotishmati Revathi, daughter of his consort King Kaku. This is a huge mandir. The mandir has four main doors. Which are respectively known as ‘Singhchaur’, ‘Janani Deodhi’, ‘Goshala Dwar’, or ‘Badwale Darwaza’.
Baldev is such a pilgrimage, whose beliefs have been followed by the Hindu religion. The matter of the lineage of Vallabhacharya ji among the Dharmacharyas is different. There are beliefs of Baldev ji among all the religious teachers like Nimbarka, Madhva, Gaudiya, Ramanuja, Shankar-Karshni, Udasin, etc. Everyone has been regularly visiting Baldevji for worship and this sequence continues even today.
Tradition of Huranga
The tradition of Huranga is five hundred years old in the city of Baldau, Baldev. It is believed that the deity of Shri Baldau consecrated here in 1582. It said that during the architectural period of the Deity in the mandir, there was a tradition of playing huranga in Baldau.
Braj’s Holi is centered on Lord Shri Krishna, while Dauji’s Huranga is centered on his elder brother Shri Baldevji. In Kodamar Holi, the Hurriyains do not see whether the beating is the brother-in-law or the father-in-law. In Huranga, the gopis lash out at the bare bodies of the gopas in the form of love. The devotees are delighted to see such a sight. Huranga takes place after Holi in Baldev’s Dauji mandir.
To play the Huranga, the Hurriyains, dressed in traditional lehenga-Farias and ornaments, flock to the mandirs singing Holi songs. Sevayat Pandey Samaj, a descendant of Goswami Shri Kalyan Devji, plays Huranga. Even the Hurriyains do not see whether the person in front is the brother-in-law or the father-in-law during the whipping.
Amazing view in Kodamar Holi
Baldev’s view becomes amazing in Kodamar Holi. The joy of Braj’s Holi ends here. Devotees from all over the country and the world come to see Kodamar Holi. It is a matter of good luck that we get a chance to play Kodamar Holi.
It is believed that when all the gods left Braj, then Baldev stayed here as the protector and protector of Braj. That is why Dauji considered the king of Braj. It also believed that Brajraj appears in an invisible form when called with love and reverence. That is why even today innumerable devotees after sipping cannabis in their garden, while offering cannabis, invite Dauji Maharaj to drink cannabis in such a way that ‘Dauji Maharaj, the king of Braj, drink cannabis, then come here.
History of Mughals and Dauji Mandir, Mathura
The period of the Mughal sultanate has often been the target of radical Hindutvaists. Emperor Aurangzeb in particular is often at the center of criticism. Aurangzeb, the longest-serving emperor in the Mughal Empire, often accused of having a large number of mandirs demolished during his reign. But there are other stories in the pages of history, which are contrary to their fabricated image. Scholars says that “Aurangzeb was completely a pure emperor. He had to rule, and for this, he did it wherever he needed to. In some places, he got the mandirs demolished, in some places he also donated to the mandirs.
Dauji Mandir, Mathura in Baldev village, 64 km from Aligarh, is one such mandir, to which Aurangzeb donated 5 villages. The revenue received from these 5 villages to the exchequer still donated to the mandir. Baldev village, famous all over the world for Huranga Holi, situated at a distance of 20 km north of Mathura.
Mathura is the birthplace of Shri Krishna. It has the largest number of mandirs after Kashi. Their number is in the thousands. There are also religious centers like Govardhan and Vrindavan. According to the beliefs of the Hindu religion, Shri Krishna is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he has the highest respect. Shri Krishna was born in a prison in Mathura. Where his maternal uncle Kansa tried to kill him, but his father Vasudev was able to save him somehow.
In the fight for justice against injustice, Shri Krishna got the most support from his elder brother Balram. Baldev is also his name and Shri Krishna used to call him Dau ji with respect and affection. There is a mandir of the same Dau ji in the village of Mahavan tehsil near Mathura. This mandir, about 500 years old, donated by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to 5 villages.
Everyone knows that 580 acres of zamindari written in the name of Dau Ji Maharaj, from which the money deposited in the government treasury used for the maintenance of the mandir. Everyone knows this in Baldev town with a population of about 10 thousand.
A popular story is like this, “Once Aurangzeb was moving towards Mathura, destroying the mandirs. He was aware of the Baldev mandir and whenever he asked his companions about it, they would reply that it is just two kos away. Even after traveling for hours, when he kept getting the same answer that “two kos far hai”, then Aurangzeb also recognized the power of Dau ji and gave up his intention to break the mandir and also tied the pension of 5 villages.
Researchers on Aurangzeb’s life and reign, says, “Aurangzeb was not a communal king. If this was so, then why would he make Rajputs the governors of the important princely states of India, while these princely states used to handle only princes? He was purely an emperor, who had his own management to rule. Somewhere he used to please the Muslims and somewhere the Hindus.
The Dauji Mandir, Mathura, is famous for the famous Huranga Holi of Braj. Holi played in the mandir courtyard, in which hundreds of brothers-in-law involved. There is a rock plate outside the mandir carving, which describes the five villages donated to the mandir of Aurangzeb.
The special thing that Aurangzeb had also built a royal carving here, on which it written, “This royal carving built by Mughal emperor Alamgir Aurangzeb in Samvat 1729, 1672 and 5 villages Bataur Mafi Jagir Mandir for the operation of the carving presented to The Mughal emperor Shah Alam, while retaining this jagir apology, increased two and a half villages for the arrangement of the Nakarkhana and Bhograg of the mandir.
It increased to seven and a half villages, serving the manor mandir of Shri Shobhari Vanshawantash Adigod Vipravansh Martand Goswami, the descendants of Shri Kalyan Dev Ji and Goswami Hansraj ji and Gifted to Jagannath ji and for the operation of the arrangement of the mandir, along with the ownership of Balabhadra Kund, two rupees per village additional revenue per village in the entire pargana Mahavan presented to Devasthan Shri Dau Ji Maharaj for the winter, whose decree 1196 Fasli i.e. Samvat 1840 Vikram Chetra Shukla 3 released.”
