In this post, Slokas From Gita (Nos.13-15)(Ch.I), the text of Bhagavat Gita narrated. Slokas From Gita (Nos.13-15)(Ch.I) consists of the 13th,14 th and 15th Slokas of CH.1 Observing the Army on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra from the Gita.
tatah sankhas ca bheryas ca panavanaka-gomukhah
sahssaivabhyahanyanta sa sabdas tumulo bhavat
After that, the conch shells, drums, bugles, trumpets, and horns were suddenly sounded, and the combined sound was tumultuous.
tatah svetair hayair yukte mahati syandane sthitau
madhavah pandavas caiva divyau sankhau pradadhmatuh
In contrast with the shell blown by Bhismadeva, the conch shells in the hands of Krishna and Arjuna described as transcendental. The sounding of the transcendental conch shell indicated that there is no hope for the other side because Krishna was on the side of Pandavas.
Victory obvious for the sons of Pandu because Lord Krishna associated with them. It is also true that the Goddess of Fortune never lives alone without her husband, hence the Goddess is also with the Pandavas.
Therefore, victory is awaiting Arjuna, as indicated by the transcendental sound produced by the conch shell of Vishnu or Lord Krsna. Apart from that, the chariot on which both the friends seated donated by Agni Deva to Arjuna. So, this chariot capable of conquering all sides, wherever it drawn over the three worlds.
pancajanyam hrsikeso devadattam dhananjayah
paundram dadhmau maha-sankham bhima-karma vrkodarah
Lord Krishna blew his conch shell, called Pancajanya; Arjuna blew, the Devadatta and Bhima, a ravenous appetite and big eater and performer of herculean tasks blew Paundra, his terrific conch shell.
Lord Krishna referred to as Hrishikesh in this verse because he is the owner of all senses. The living entities are part and parcel of Him, and therefore, the sense of the living entities are also part and parcel of His senses. The impersonality cannot account for the senses of the living entities and therefore they are always anxious to describe all entities as senseless or impersonal.
The Lord, situated in the heart of living entities directs their senses. But he directs in terms of the surrender of the living entities and in the case of pure devotee he directly controls the senses. Hear in the Battlefield of Kurukshetra the Lord directly controls the transcendental senses of Arjuna, and thus his particular name of Hrishikesh.
The Lord Krsna has different names according to his different activities. For example, his name is Madhusudana because he killed the demon the name Madhu, His name is Govinda because he gives pleasure to the cows, and to the senses. His name is Vasudeva because he appeared as the son of Vasudev; He called in the name of Devaki Nandana because he accepted Devaki as His mother. His name is Yoshoda-nandana because He awarded his childhood pastime to Yashoda at Vrindavana. Another name is Parthasarathi because he worked as a charioteer of His friend Arjuna. Similarly, his name is Hrishikesh because he gave direction to Arjuna on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Arjuna referred to as Dhananjaya in this here because he helped his elder brother fetch wealth when it was required by the king for different sacrifices. Similarly, Bhima known as Vrokodara because he could eat as voraciously as he could perform herculean tasks such as killing the demon, Hidimba.
So, the particular type of conch shell blown by the different personalities on the side of the Pandavas, beginning with the Lord’s, is all very encouraging to the fighting soldiers of Pandavas. On the other side, no such credit nor the presence of Lord Krishna, the Supreme directors, not that of the Goddess of fortune. So, they were predestined to lose the battle and the message announced by the sound of the conch shells.
