The Shri Devi Kup (Bhadrakali) Temple, is the spiritual center of reverence, love, and faith in Kurukshetra city. Kurukshetra of Haryana is considered one of the major pilgrimage centers for Hindus. This place is so ancient that even today this place bears testimony to the devastating war of Mahabharata that took place 5000 years ago.

Kurukshetra is very closely related to the war of Mahabharata because according to mythological beliefs, Lord Krishna had chosen Kurukshetra for the battle of Mahabharata and at this place, Shri Krishna also preached the Gita to Arjuna.

The Temple

Devi Kup (Bhadrakali) Temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths of Mother Sati. It is also world-famous as ‘Savitri Peeth’, ‘Devi Peeth’, ‘Kalika Peeth’ or ‘Adi Peeth’. Big Siddha mahatmas have attained the desired accomplishments by worshiping here by the grace of Bhagwati. The welfare mother Bhadrakali is gracefully adorned here. Both the right and left hands are in Varmudra. Gorgeous beautiful statues of Adi Shakti, Shri Mahalakshmi Ji, and Shri Mahasaraswati ji are also adorned here.

In the above temple, the gentle idol of Maa Vaishno and the form of Pindi, Adishakti are revered. There is a wonderful Shivling in the Shiv family, in which there is a natural frontal tilak and snake feeling. An excellent artistic maze is also made.

This Shaktipeeth is situated near Dwaipayana Sarovar. Here the right ankle of the mother had fallen. Here Shakti is ‘Savitri’ and Bhairav ​​is ‘Sthanu’. This place has been mentioned in Tantrachudamani and Mahabharata. This famous Shaktipeeth is 4 km from Kurukshetra railway station. It is situated on Jhansi road. On entering the main gate, the Goddess Coupe is seen in front, above which the heels of Mother Sati can be seen.

Importance of the Devi Kup (Bhadrakali) Temple

In Kurukshetra, Haryana’s only Devi Kup Bhadrakali Shaktipeeth established. According to mythological beliefs, this temple is closely related to the war of Kurukshetra and the presence of Lord Krishna in that war with the Pandavas as narrated in Mahabharata.

It said that when Lord Shiva started roaming around the whole universe carrying the dead body of his wife Sati, Lord Vishnu divided the body of Goddess Sati into 52 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra so that Lord Shiva’s attachment toward Goddess Sati ends.

It said that wherever the body parts of Goddess Sati fallen on the earth, Shaktipeeths established there. In the Devi Kup Bhadrakali Shaktipeeth of Kurukshetra, the right leg of Mata Sati fell, that is, the part below the knee.

Shri Krishna shaved in this Temple

This ancient Shaktipeeth of Kurukshetra not only related to Mother Sati, but this place also closely related to Lord Krishna, who preached the Gita to Arjuna during the Mahabharata war.

According to mythological beliefs, the shaving of Lord Krishna done at this holy place. Due to this, the importance of this place increases even more in Kali Yuga.

Arjuna prayed for victory in this Temple

According to beliefs, before the war of Mahabharata, Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to worship Goddess Bhadrakali in this ancient temple. Arjuna worshiped Mother Bhadrakali at this place after told by Shri Krishna.

After worshiping at this holy place, Arjun took a vow to be victorious in the war of Mahabharata and after the victory had also taken a vow to offer a horse to this temple. It  said that after the fulfillment of the vow after the war of Mahabharata, the tradition of offering gold, silver, or earthen horses going on here.

Festivals

A huge fair of Mata Ji held at this holy place in Navratri of Chaitra and Ashwin. To the south of the temple is the temple of Daksheshwar Mahadev. There is a historical practice of offering horses of as much power (gold, silver, or clay) as an offering to the mother on the fulfillment of the wish. Navratras and Saturdays have special significance for worship. Comfortable Dharamshala and many hotels are available for the stay of travelers in Kurukshetra. It is the 47th Shaktipeeth out of 52 Shaktipeeths. 15-20 lakh pilgrims visit every year.
